Peppy Peplums: Fall 2012 Trends

November 5, 2012

They are fun and peppy, a little bit of flirt among the body hugging tailoring.

But they can be a bit of a challenge when the question is what to wear them with or how to even wear them. But have no fear, we have seven steps that will get you peplum ready!

1. Try Pairing With Sleek Trousers

Both wide leg or slim fit trousers would work so wear whatever you feel flatters your shape the best.  I love this ultra-bright color combo, but if your office is more conservative, try neutral trousers with a burgundy or indigo top—two hot colors for fall.

2. Pair with Distressed Denim for the Weekends

Try wearing a fitted peplum blouse over distressed denim and heels for a fresh take on the ubiquitous tank/jeans/heels combo every other girl will be sporting on a night out

3. Wear Your Peplum Top with a Pencil Skirt

Party on the top and business on the bottom, what could be better? For date night go with a sexy, fitted mini-skirt—but be sure you’ve got a good balance of bare arms and bare legs. Don’t give too much away!

4. Invest in a Skirt Already with a Peplum

Ok, while the average person has absolutely nowhere to wear a floor length orange peplum skirt, this outfit is too stunning not to share, and still gets the point across. Imagine this one is cropped by about half. A slim knee length skirt with a peplum attached is a slightly more daring way to rock the look. The peplum is more obvious and statement-making on a pencil skirt than on a top, so if that’s your thing, this is a good option for you. Style it with a fitted sleeveless blouse or a plain white tee for summer, then wear it with a chunky sweater and booties in the fall. Steer clear of full or poufy silhouettes, which can read a little 80’s prom queen

6. Try an Effortless Sleek Peplum Dress.

A figure flattering sheath dress  is made even more chic with the addition of a peplum. Wear it with a statement making belt and strappy heels for a trendy work to dinner outfit.

7. Top it off with a peplum jacket.

Finally, try a statement-making jacket over pants, dresses, skirts, shorts, jumpsuits, etc, etc, yatta yatta yatta. The curvy silhouette is just as flattering on a blazer as anything else, and can be worn in just as many ways.

How would you style your peplum?
